Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) is one of a number of techniques developed in response to a requirement within the process industry to be able to assess the adequacy of the layers of protection provided for an activity.
This app provides a simplified method of evaluating a high pressure scenario that has been identified in a hazard identification exercise and gives an indication of the protective layers required to mitigate the risk.
The default probabilities and risk levels used in this application have been set by the developers based on their experience and judgement in the use of LOPA techniques for SIL determination. It is the responsibility of the end user to ensure that the probabilities and risk levels used are appropriate and tolerable for their application.
Steps for Analysis:
-enter the process parameters
-select from a range of initiating causes
The resultant residual risk and additional mitigation required are displayed. Additional mitigation required is shown as a safety integrity level (SIL) as defined in IEC61508.
-select from a range of protection layers
-email the report
